Profile
Formed in 1992 by Nami Sagara and Tomoko Kakiage after the two of them graduated from Tokyo University of Arts, The Eccentric Opera combine unusual and melodic electronic music with strange operatic vocals. To begin with, the two of them did not use electronic music, and in this early period, between 1992 and 1994, they played concerts in a variety of European countries, including France, Germany and The Netherlands.
In 1996 the tenor Yutaka Kawashima was added to the line-up. At this time, the band began to mix techno and electro music with famous operatic pieces from operas such as "Madam Butterfly" and "Carmen". After his brief stint with the band, Kawashima left in 1997, just before the band began recording their second album.
The band began to grow in popularity throughout 1997, with their songs being played on FM radio stations in Japan and one of their songs was even featured on and Olympus digital camera commercial.
The Eccentric Opera released on last album in 1998 and, following this, the band ceased activities, but the members continue to be active in their solo projects.

Thoughts
The name Eccentric Opera describes this band quite well. Their music provides a strange combination of beautiful operatic vocals and modern electronic music. I think their technique does pay off quite well in songs like "Ai no Fugue". However, sometimes the music can become very strange and turn off listeners.
