Sowelu nee Harada Aki was born on November 6th, 1982 in Tokyo. Her first single, Beautiful Dreamer (released in 2002) has a soft love ballad which did very well spurning a feature on the RelaxinEwith Japanese Lovers compilation album (man, that sounds hawt). Her album Geofu gained recognition for she had previously released a single, that was not as sucessful. Geofu went as high as the number 4 position and sold 300,000 copies. Her first single after Geofu, Rainbow was used as the theme song for the Japanese drama Netsuretsuteki Chukahanten, and the b-side song on that single, breath ~Omoi no Youryou~ was used for the national promotion campaign of JFN Radio.With her rising success, she gained even more popularity, and was asked to sing the end theme for the popular animated series Fullmetal Alchemist: I Will, giving her an easy in with american fans. Her third single Fortune was selected for the American Jpop compilation album Neo Soul.

Thoughts
Sowelu is a great hip-hop and pop singer. Her music has a heavy emphasis on the background rhythm and is similar to what you would hear at clubs. You want to dance along :) She also has a very nice voice that is similar to Boa’s. Below are some great samples!
