SMASH THE BRAIN first formed in 1997 with only two members: Shimada and Yamaguchi. The strange formation became the band’s selling point at live performances, attracting many fans. After participating in several compilation albums, they successfully recorded their first album "Keep Our Way" in 2000 under Amuse DCR label.

Wanting to further their musical career, they recruited the guitarist, Kizawa, from the heavy rock band Dust Port Mixmaster in 2001. The following year, Katano (ex Suneoh) also joined the band. Together the four members created a new album titled "Forever Lasting Twilight".

In 2004, a founder of the band, Yamaguchi, decided to leave the band. Minamikatsu and Kamomiya (ex Grim Force) joined the band in his place. With a complete lineup, the band began to record new songs and perform live again. SMASH THE BRAIN’s recordings peaked the interest of the label company SPIRITUAL BEAST. Signing a contract with the label, SMASH THE BRAIN moved forward and released their third album "Construction of Despair" which was released worldwide in late 2006.

Thoughts

I think SMASH THE BRAIN is off to a good start. Their vocalist often sing in English with harsh vocals. Unlike some bands though, their vocalist are easy to understand. I also enjoy how they maintain strong melodies throughout their songs.
