SHADOW is a Japanese melo-death metal band that was formed in Osaka in 1993, with Tokiko Shimamoto (vocals), Yuichi Sumimoto (guitar), Shinichiro Okada (guitar), Yoshio Kubo (bass), and Mitsuhiro Enomoto (drums). Their vocalist, Tokiko Shimamoto, is a female who puts most of her male counterparts to shame. In 2001, they released their first album, SHADOW, under the Finnish record label, "Spikefarm".

Thoughts

SHADOW’s music style is very similar to other metal bands, such as "INTESTINE BAALISM" and "BLOOD STAIN CHILD," so if you like them or you’re into screaming, you’ll probably like SHADOW. Also, despite the fact that the vocalist is female, don’t expect to hear a gorgeous soprano. Tokiko Shimamoto has a deeper voice than most death vocalists, and it’s extremely difficult to distinguish her voice as that of a female. An excellent example of this is evident in the song, "The Arrival at the Last Quarter." (The lyrics are, surprisingly, in English)
