In 1993 in Kobe, Japan drummer Keija created the heavy metal band Awaken along with fellow member Aki on guitar. Then in 1994 they changed their name to Serpent along with their music style. Influenced by the band, In Flames Keija decided to take on a more melodic death metal sound.

In 2000 Serpent disbanded but two years later in 2002 Keija with the help of Aki, re-united Serpent. Shortly after they gained member Hiro on bass.

In 2003 guitartist Ken joined the band in time for the release of their first demo, Bloody Gates and their self titled mini album, Serpent.

In 2004 Serpent toured Kobe and Osaka Japan with popular melodic death metal band, The Black Dahlia Murder. At that time their single, Lunar Eclipse was released. But by the end of 2004 Aki left the band.

In Jaunary of 2005 Serpent begain recording their first full length album titled, Cradle of Insanity which was released on May 25, 2005.

Thoughts

I don’t particularly enjoy Serpent. Their music is quite good, but I don’t care for the vocals. The vocals are very harsh, and you’ll either like them or won’t. Please listen to the samples to decide for yourself.
