Sasagawa Miwa is a folk singer. Starting at an early age, Sasagawa was attracted to music. In 2nd grade, she began taking piano classes and by the 6th grade, she was composing original melodies. As she grew up, she began to sing as well and was attracted to Gospel songs.In 2000, Sasagawa entered a contest hosted by MOS Burger for the best original Christmas song. She submitted a song she had written titled "Thanks to be Here" and won first place. This encouraged her to become a singer. She released the song on an Indies single titled "X’mos with Smile", and it was later used as the commercial theme song for MOS Burger.
A few months later, Sasagawa entered into a contract with the record label Paint Box. Through the label, she released several singles and a mini album.
In 2003, Sasagawa became a major music artist after signing on with Avex. She debuted with a re-release of the song "Warai" and was ranked #49 on the Oricon charts.
Through the years, Sasagawa continued to release chart hitting songs. In addition to her music career, she became a DJ for the radio station All Night Nippon.
In 2006, Sasagawa started to encounter a slump in her career. Her album "Yoake" and singles "Oborotzukiyo" and "Mayoi Naku" did not do well on the music charts. In 2007 Sasagawa’s contract with Avex ended. Since then, she has begun to work as an indie artist again.
