Profile
Rukia was formed in July 2006 in Szczecinek (Poland) from Gabriels initiative. "Before I even though about creating the band, I knew who will play on guitar and keyobards", the vocalist commented. Those who agreed to play with him were Lukasz (ex. drummer of Hedgehog in the Carrot) and Paulina, who has played the piano for about ten years. There were a few rehearsals without a bass or drum player before Olga and David joined the band.
In September 2006, the band began to record two songs in a music studio: "Miaow! Death Kittys Life" and "November Apocalipse". Unsatisfied with David as a drummer, the band asked him to leave. In his place, computerized drum beats were used to keep the tempo of the songs. By that winter, Rukia was beginning to play some gigs. The band also used Gabriels home studio again to record some new songs.
In April 2007, Lukasz left the band, so Gabriel took over as the guitarist as recording was finalized. On May 1st, 2007 Rukia released their first demo record "Seishin Assault" and began to promote their music via the internet.

Thoughts
I was impressed with Rukias music. Their songs have beautiful melodic melodies that really catch your attention. A lot of music fans will also appreciate their music for all of the ties to Japanese culture that have been incorporated. Their lyrics feature some Japanese phrases, and JPOP fans will appreciate the computerized drum beats. The vocals used in Rukia are still a bit rough, but with more experience should become quite similar to The Killers with some metal influence. Definitely give this band a listen!
