Review
The latest single from Alice Nine. before their second full-length album (Alpha) drops on November 28, "Tsubasa" is an innocent-feeling single that is a pleasure to listen to over and over again. Shous vocals are powerful on all three tracks of the regular edition, and the other members provide very good support on guitar, bass, and drums, as they always do.
Track Listing
1) Tsubasa ? Another song from Alice Nine. that uses quite a lot of English (and is halfway understandable), Tsubasa is a very energetic, happy-feeling song that showcases Shous voice beautifully. It has a very sweet air that becomes more apparent when one reads the translated lyrics, but at the same time uses heavy guitar riffs and fast-paced drum work that makes it something one would expect to hear in a dance club. I think the one thing that detracts most from the song however is that Shous vocals sometimes get overpowered by the electronic sounds of the instruments and mixing work. 8/10
2) Ruri no Ame ? This is my favorite song on the CD. Keeping in line with the atmosphere "Tsubasa" produced, "Ruri no Ame" also has an innocent and sweet feeling to it, while also having a slight edge of melancholy and bittersweetness. I especially liked the sound of church bells near the end of the track. 9/10
3) Follow Me ? The final track on the single, this sounds more like what the group had on their Zekkeishoku album. That doesnt mean its a repeat of that CD, however. It is a good ending to this CD, keeping in the same vein as the previous tracks in terms of the overall tone. The guitar solo around the 1:45 mark was one of the most enjoyable aspects of the song. 8/10
