Overview
Ellegarden has been one of my favorite bands for years, and although some of their songs are losing their old feel, they're still a great band. Their punk style and very nice vocals puts American bands like Blink 182 to shame. Not to mention their great English.
Review
First of all, it is a single and I rather dislike singles because they're so short. There have been many things about Ellegarden in the past that made me love them. Their solos, and the random metal songs they'd write, but this single is devoid of any of those perks. Basically, it's average for a single. His vocals have somewhat improved since I last heard them. His English in Mr. Feather is a lot clearer than most songs I've heard him sing. The lyrics are somewhat of a disappointment, as it feels it has been done before many times over, but they make the lyrics sound good. Sometimes I wonder why Japanese bands swear in their songs. In my opinion, that makes me like songs even less. All the songs are solid, but none stand out to the point of being up to the standards I used to have for them, but Stereoman comes close.
Track Listing
1) Space Sonic- 7.75/10
This is the title track, but I bet you didn't know that, huh? I'm not sure if the emotion he put into this song warps his voice some, but either way, the emotion in his singing is clearly here. The lyrics are much more angsty than they are good, but Ellegarden has always been able to make below average lyrics into great songs.
2) Stereoman - 8/10
Yes, this is the type of Ellegarden I've been missing. Although his voice hits high notes, it's somewhat off-key. But, that's nothing to worry about as the song is great and very much like some older songs. The lyrics are great as well.
3) Mr. Feather - 7.5/10
There's something about his vocals and slow parts that sometimes don't match. His voice is meant for harder rock and it doesn't do well when it isn't backed up by background music. That said, it's still a strong song.
