Overview

Ellegarden is usually my first choice when it comes to rock music. Their songs are usually energetic, but can also be serious. They combine those traits so well that their music can and probably will astound you! Ellegarden is an impressive band and if you give your self a chance to listen to them, you may get addicted to them, like me!

Review

I will try really, REALLY hard to keep from being biased, to me they are the best J-rock band out there (With Asian Kung-Fu Generation right behind them ^_^). Salamander is Ellegardenfs latest instalment after vocalist Takeshi Hosomi had a throat problem and the band was forced to take a hiatus. What can I say, Ellegarden has come back with force! Salamander is full of strong guitar and drums, serious lyrics and it flows really well.

There are only a few issues with Salamander. One is the fact that it is a single. With a length of just over 11 minutes, it left my ears dry and wanting much more. Also the songs were a little on the quiet sidec not really what I like. The lyrics seem to overpower the music, just a little. If you can get over that then Salamander is perfect for your J-Rock collection!

Overall, depending on your taste, this can be a good or a bad album. All of Salamander is in English. This could be a sign of a few shows in North America! Salamander is worth buying if you really like theyfre style music. All the songs are very fun to listen to and can really make you think about the messages in the songs. Transitions between songs is alright, but not spectacular. The last song of Salamander was kind of weak, but great nonetheless.

Salamander is a must buy for any J-Rock enthusiast. If you canft understand much Japanese (like me) you will love Salamander.

1. Salamander (3:40) - 9.6/10
The self-titled single song. This song is just. Wow. Strong instrumentals, I REALLY love the lyrics! Great song for their return to the music scene!

2. Lately (2:36) - 9/10
Lately is almost as good as Salamander. Really on the short side throws this song off. Also the song was a little quiet (at normal volume). Otherwise a great track to relax to.

3. Alternative Plans (2:52) - 8/10
This song gave a really summery feeling. Good song, but not my kind of song. This song really made me think about memories of past summers.
