Overview

B’z has always been one of my more favorite Japanese rock bands simply because they create amazing music with few members, each of with have massive talent. Although not ever release was as good as the last, they’ve still far to go before they lose their touch. B’z has been around since the 80s and has continued to release heavy metal, blues, and pop inspired music. Yes, strange combination.

My Review of the CD

Being a huge fan of B’z, I’ll try to supress my fanboyism. There’s a good amount of songs on this album, each one with a different feel. The first few seem to take after their pop infleunces, whereas others are obviously blues and ballads, and others that are hard rock. Luckily for us, it wasn’t put together in any strange mix and they flow welll enough. Except for Happy Birthday. Nothing could flow with that in an album.

The unfortunate part of this album is definately the fact that it DOES change genres so much. While I realize their other albums have done this in the past, I don’t feel there was enough hard rock, in all honesty, to show just how well Tak can play guitar. In fact, this was one of the worst representations of his skill. The riffs were somewhat unique, but far and few, and the solos were also rare and uninspired. I’m quite disappointed with you, Tak. The drumming was fine. It fit. All that it ever does. The vocals haven’t changed at all and are still full of the same energy they had 20 years ago.

Overall, it was a good release, but not worth buying unless you have extra chas or can find it really cheap. Some songs are just plain fun to listen to, like Splash, as I feel the lyrics can from another recently released pop album... and the main killer is Happy Birthday. This song is useless. It’s a rock cover of the song we all know and love that we get sung to once a year, but at the same time, it’s a mix of Japanese and Engrish. "Hapfy Birfday" you will hear over and over. It’d make a nice single, but not a good song on an album. The Ocean remix was a good addition, and expected. Ocean was a great single, and one of their best ballads, but I hear no differences between the remix and original. Still, a good track to end the album with.

Nothing spectacular hear, but a must-listen to any B’z fan.
