My Rating

Music - 9/10
Vocals - 8.5/10
Length - 10/10 (1 hour, 4 minutes, 10 seconds)
Songs - 4/10
Overall - 8.5/10

I’ll explain my review here. The music is typically great, and I like Sakamoto’s vocals here a bit more than in Anthem, because he’s just made to sing about anime. The length is obviously long. When was the last time you listen to an hour long album? I have, but it’s rare. What’s the downsize? Well, 1:04:10 divided by 43 means there’s a lot of short songs. Most are around 1 minute long while others are below a minute. But, they’ve blessed us with some longer songs (two 2 minute songs, one 3 and a half minute song, and one song over 11 minutes!). If it wasn’t for the sheer excellence that is their 11 minute song, I would’ve rated "Songs" much lower.

Overview

Animetal has always created metallized anime music, and since 1996, they’ve taken Japan, America, and Europe. Since those are the places anime is most prevalent, many anime fans have been turned on to Animetal and Japanese metal in general. How many anime songs can you name? Well, I bet you they've done a hundred more than that. Either way, they’re a great band and it’s a great concept (covering anime songs and music).

As for this album, it’s a continuation of their "Animetal Marathon" album series, and it features 43 songs! Which is actually just 2 more songs than their formerly largest album. Even though they have a lot of songs, when have anime songs ever been long? So, even with 30+ songs, most of their albums never reach over an hour. This one does, at 1 hour and 4 minutes long. Either way, if you’ve watched any of the anime they’ve covered, it would be fun to hear them in a whole new light. As for this album, I’ve never seen any of these animes...

Song Review

As for the song review, I’m not going to tell you what I thought of every song. For one, I haven’t seen any of these anime and I can only tell you how they are from a metalhead’s viewpoint. So, I’ll pick the longer songs and some shorter songs and explain why I like them.

10) Ore Wa X Kaizorg [Kamen Rider X] - 59 seconds long - 7/10
From a typical power metal standpoint, the music is what you’d expect. However, one thing nice in all their songs is the prevalent bass guitar you can always hear. You’ll catch some English words because the vocals are clear and nice. The song seems longer than it really is.

09) Shounen Kamen Rider Tai No Uta [Kamen Rider V3] - 47 seconds long - 8.5/10
This song starts off showing Syu’s neo-classically influenced shreding talents, as well as a chorus and dual-singing. It’s just simply great for 47 seconds of pure enjoyment.

41) Kimi No Seishun Wa Kagayaite Iru Ka [Choujinki Metalder] - 2 minutes 30 seconds - 8/10
This song is longer, and yet somewhat slower. There are some nice almost ambient parts and some even better background music, as well as Sakamoto singing. A well organized song.

43) JUMP IN THE FIRE (Jump Medley) - 11 minutes 34 seconds - 9.3/10
This song is simply great. It’s long, it’s fast, it’s got the bass, the shreding, the vocals, the voice layering, everything is superb. For longer songs, it’s obvious that the exact same drum beat, same vocals, same chorus would eventually get boring. As with some bands (X Japan - Art of Life), they’ve learned to mix things up. The song really gets your interest and keeps it all the way to the end.
