Overview
Whereas Blood Stain Child may be a Children of Bodom clone, I could never get into CoB, but I enjoy Bood Stain Child. Although the vocals are near identical, BSC tends to have an air of technicality and melody to their music, whereas CoB tends to be simply melodic power metal. I rather feel this to be their best album, but none of the songs stand out like Artificial Mind and Deep Silent Memory did for me in their other albums. But, in those albums, those were really the only good songs. All the rest were seemingly generic and devoid of emotion.
That is why I like this album more. It is not "Man, I want to hear Artificial Mind, but all these other songs are in the way." It is: "I want to hear Nuclear Trance, but I cant stop listening to the other songs". Definately what makes this album good.
Track Listing
1. Hyper Sonic - 4 minutes 41 seconds - 8/10
The opening is entertaining, very techincal. Although most of their songs are technical. I dont know if its just me, but there seems to be a lot of voice layering as well. The solo is decent, and theres clean background singing, but its not all that great. It does add a nice affect to the music, however.
2. Live Inside - 3 minutes 26 seconds - 7.5/10
A nice fast song, with few slow downs. Ryo, the vocalist, adds in some amazing black metal growls, longer than he usually does, which is truthfully the highlight of the song. At times, the song tends to get "pop-ish". But I guess thats what its about... and the guitar solo has a very interesting technical ending.
3. Embrace Me - 4 minutes 55 seconds - 7.5/10
Decent piano solo in the beginning, which is audible for quite a while even after the isnanely fast drums and guitar start. It ends and picks up, but thats basically the highlight the the song. I could almost pick up on the English narration. Boring solo.
4. Final Sky - 4 minutes 3 seconds - 8/10
Woo, the drums have a different beat. Yay! Alex Laiho, I mean, Ryo, shows his normal vocals throughout. The new drum beat is the highlight. The solo was longer and above average, also a highlight.
5. Truth - 3 minutes 16 seconds - 7/10
The cheese. Yes, thats what this song should be called. I have no clue what language the narrator-dude is speaking. There simply should not be a such thing as a "technical solo" but there is, along with a below average guitar solo.
6. Trial Spiral - 3 minutes 47 seconds - 6.5/10
Havent I heard the exact same intro before? Probably, but it takes a nice twist after. Great solo, but not enough to hold the entire song together. This is proof that they can do awesome solos if they leave enough room in the song for them.
7. Void - 4 minutes 21 seconds - 6.5/10
Riffilacious. If anymore must be said, its not bad at all, except those damned narratiosn that sound Japanese, but you cant tell. Woah, did Alexi Laiho just sing this? Decent solo.
8. Nuclear Trance - 5 minutes 6 seconds - 8.5/10
Wow. A female voice. Too bad its not for long and probably synthed. Whereas every song has something unique about them, this one is so far the most unique. The only gripe I have with this song is the repetative, yet typical beat. Good solo.
9. Ag20 - 3 minutes 39 seconds - 7/10
A new unique opening into that horribly non-understandable narrator. Strange song, unique in a bad way, really, but then it kinda almost makes up for it. The solo was seemingly non existant.
10. Type-N - 3 minutes 22 seconds - 7.5/10
Ugh, the techno intro... but the female vocals appear again, but theyd sound better if they didnt sound warped. Soemtimes its done right, and sometimes, its done horribly wrong. Have I heard this solo before? Well, if I had, its a good solo to rip. Nice, long black metal growls.
11. Life Story - 4 minutes 30 seconds - 7/10
Shoot the goddamned narrator already! Well, no, he makes the music seem less generic, but at least get one that makes sense. Drum beat takes a twist to the more rock-side at times, and theres some warped singing. I hope its singing. The solo is great, though. Nice, slow, technical exit.
12. True Blue (Luna Sea cover) - 3 minutes 35 seconds -
I cant help but feel a little dirty is rating this song, because although its a cover, it doesnt sound anything like the original. I cant tell if the lyrics are the same, but this is still a good song. The narrator-dude guy sounds less audible so you dont hear his horrible English/Japanese/language.
