Review

"Daemonicus" is AREA51's latest album to be released. Known for their melodic power metal, this album definitely will not disappoint fans. The album has been released through iTunes in several countries. In addition, the album also features guest musician Rob Rock, who is best known for his works in the band IMPELLITTERI. Let's first review some of the best points of the album.

One of the highlights of "Daemonicus" are the fantastic guitar solos featured in songs such as "Just Like a Prayer" and "Lord Knows". Yoichiro's grandest moment though lies in the instrumental song "Requiem", which features a beautifully written melody led by the guitar. By far the star of "Daemonicus" though is Kate. Her vocals have an elegant, yet powerful quality that is the focus of most of the songs featured in the album.

Considered the real 'masterpiece' of this album is the song "Lord Knows". Spanning over sixteen minutes, the song takes several climatic twists and turns, smoothly transitioning from soft ballad melodies to upbeat powerful melodies. The song's complicated composition demonstrates AREA51's growth musically. Some credit also needs to be given to Rob Rock who sings a duet with Kate in this song. His vocals add a lot of character to the song and blend nicely with Kate's in the chorus'.

The one weakness I felt in this album was the recording of the instruments. There are occasions where they have an electronic "midi" like sound, that makes the songs seem much more simplistic than they really are. If they increased the volume of the instruments and used more accoustic instruments, then it would add depth to their songs.

Overall "Daemonicus" is a good album for metal and rock fans alike. The songs are very unique and the compositions are top notch, demonstrating Yoichiro's creative genius as a musician.
