Overview

'Lo and Behold', this heavy metal band is still in existance! Since 1981, they have created the earliest form of metal ever experienced in Japan, and even though it isn't the oldest metal band, it contains a legendary guitarist: Akira Takasaki. Either way, this August 17th they released their newest single "The Battleship Musashi" under Tokuma Japan Communications.

Track Listing

1. The Battleship Musashi - 8.5/10
For Loudness, the vocalist (Minoru Niihara), although very capable as a singer with a somewhat high-pitched voice (meaning he can hit high notes very well), Minoru's voice in many of their songs seems somewhat distant and not very clear. The music is loud and great, and Akira's legendary status shines through.

2. Wolfgang Amadues - 8/10
Starts off with some weird chanting of some sort, then the drums start with a high snare influence, and then the others pick up the pace. Then Minoru starts singing. His voice is more audible... but still not distinct. Then again, it's metal, so what are you belly-aching about?

3. More Than Machine - 6/10
Starts off very techno-y, and I hate techno, but thank god it only lasts for a minute. To tell you the truth, the techno beat is faster than the drum beat later in the song. This song is instrumental and the bassist (Masayoshi Yamashita) is clearly audible in all his glory. The techno beat comes back on occassion, but it's still not that bad.

4. The Battleship Musashi Battle Remix - 8.5/10
This one starts off with a gentle ocean abound all about you, try to make the feel you're on the ocean. I woudl assume you could figure that out. Akira and the drummer (Munetaka Higuchi ) start up with synchronized notes and then it speeds up beyond all hell. Yamashita is somewhat audible as well in some parts. Minoru will start singing... but you probably didn't notice it until the music slowed a little, did you? Minoru's voice is, once again, toned down.

In my opinon, the original song and the remix are both equally great. The remix makes my blood boil more, but the original is classic nonetheless.
