Profile
Puffy AmiYumi is a girl duo that performs both jpop and jrock songs. Neither Ami nor Yumi knew each other before their band was put together in 1995. Ami had auditioned for Sony, while Yumi auditioned at a management company. Their looks and similar voices made a great match. Together, the two girls came out with their first single, Asia no Junshin, in 1996 and were a immediate success. Puffy AmiYumi have since then sold millions of CDs, hosted their own variety show, and have their own line of shoes.
Thoughts
Ami and Yumi make a great duo! But do not mistake them as just rock artists. Ami and Yumi also stand as Japanese Idols who perform quite a bit of pop as well. I personally like their rock songs more. Some of their pop songs are too directed at gaining popularity with teenagers imo. The song, Tokyo Night, for example is uplifting and cute, but the vocals do not portray much in the way of emotion. Songs like Sunrise and the Teen Titans opening work better with their voices.
