Profile

According to Wikepedia, the Polysic’s name comes from the Korg Polysix which was the first synthesizer owned by Hiroyuki Hayashi. The sythnesizer was in their first two early music videos. Anyway, the band formed in 1997 and eventually got their big break in 1998 at a concert in Tokyo. Since 1999, the Polyics released several albums: 1sp P and A.D.W.R.M. were released under the DECKREC Records label. But just after this release, their bassist (known as POLY-2) left. Apparently they were called themselves "POLY-". So, it’d be POLY-4 for the fourth member.

They got rid of those and focused then on their US album "Hey! Bob! My Friend", but it was not recieved well. It was just a compilation of tracks from their first two albums. Later, in 2000, they signed with Ki/oon Records (which is a subsidiary of Sony Music Ent.) and released their first major album "Neu".

In 2003 their dummer, Junichi Sugai left the band, so Ishimaru joined on drum support. Also, this year Neu was released in America. They went on tour in America and eventually released yet another compilation CD of their "best" songs called: "Polysics or Die".

Thoughts

Polysics has become fairly popular in the US, but I do not really understand why. Their music is very random, techno/rock, and the vocals are just average. You can throw stones at me if it makes you feel better, but I really find their music annoying hehe. Polysics reminds me of a band that will remain trendy for a certain period and then phase out. So yeah, thats my synopsis of this so-so band. Just not my cup of tea.
