Misia first began training for a vocal career at the age of 15. Her favorite genres at the time were RnB and gospel. In 1997 she auditioned at a record company and recieved a contract with BGM. The following year she made her major debut with the single "Tsutsumi Komu Youni". The single was very successful, ranking in the top twenty on the Oricon charts.

After a very successful start, Misia changed over to the record company Rhythmedia Tribe in 2002 and is continuing to produce hits.

Thoughts

I have mixed thoughts about Misia. Her voice is beautiful. Its deep, sexy, and sounds spectacular when she sings jazz and pop. I think her voice loses some of that quality though when she ventures into RnB. If you compare "Everything" with "In My Soul" you can definitely hear a difference in quality.
