Mika Nakashima began to pursue a career in music at the age of 17 instead of attending high school. She sent a demo tape to Sony, and recieved a contract from them soon afterwards. She made her major debut with the single "Stars". The single was featured on the drama Kizu Darake no Love Song and sold 60,000 copies. Her second single, sold out the first day it was released! Needless to say, her first album was incredibly successful too. It ranked number 1 on the charts and sold millions of copies.After doing some live tours and releasing more hits, she landed a role in the movie NANA. She also composed the single "Glamorous Sky" for the movie. The single was so popular that it stayed in the top ten of Oricon’s charts for several weeks!
In addition to these successes, Mika has also won several awards. In 2002 she recieved the Japan Gold Disc New Artist of the Year award, the All Japan Request Best New Artist of the Year Award, and the 44th Japanese Record New Artist of the Year Award!

Thoughts
I am probably one of the few people out there that isn’t a die hard Mika Nakashima fan. She has some good jazz/pop songs. In my opinion though, she isn’t as vocally talented as BoA or Ayaka Hirahara and yet is as or even more successful than them.Click to read/add your opinion!
