Megumi Ogata was born in Tokyo on June 6, 1965. She is a very well known Seiyu and JPop singer. She loved acting while she was in primary school but stopped soon after she was in junior high as she developed interest in sports such as basketball. Her father wanted her to study but she was not interested in university and therefore quit after a year.She moved away after she had disagreements with her father and began pursuing her path as a Seiyu. She was an actress of Neverland Musical Community but it closed down when she was at the age of 24 before she started working with a Seiyu/voice acting company, Aoni Production. Voicing for the character of Yu Yu Hakusho, Kurama was her debut.
She started working as an Indies musician in 2000.
Megumi Ogata has a deep voice, though she played some feminine characters like Esmeraude in Magic Knight Rayearth, she is popularly known to play young men and boys and boyish women like Shinji Ikari and the lesbian Haruka Tenoh ? also known as Sailor Uranus in Sailormoon. She played Sanada Yukimura, a 35 years old male in Samurai Deeper Kyo. It is quite unique for a female to provide voice for male characters.

My Thoughts
Megumi Ogata sings like most seiyuu vocalists. She has a beautiful deep voice, but really does not use it to its true potential. She is good, but could never match up to the quality of seiyuu’s like Megumi Hayashibara or Masami Okui. I also find her songs to be rather anti-climatic. The songs build up to a certain point, but stop right before you would anticipate the climax of a song.Click to read/add your opinion!
