Born in Muroran City in Hokkaido, internationally acclaimed pianist Kyoko Tabe began piano lessons at the age of 4. She continued her studies and enrolled at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music high school, during which time she was the youngest artist ever to be awarded first prize in the Japan Music Competition, in 1984. She eventually won a scholarship from the Japan Agency of Cultural Affairs, in 1988, and this allowed he to study abroad at the Hochschule der Kunste Berlin. As well as graduating in the top of her class as both an undergraduate and then graduate student, she also participated in and won prizes in several international music competitions, such as the Epinal International Piano Competition in France, Schnabel Piano Competition in Berlin, the International Music Competition ARD in Munich and the Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw.Following this, Kyoko played with many highly regarded orchestras including the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Warsaw Philharmonic, Barcelona City Orchestra. San Jose Symphony, Bruckner Orchestra Linz and Manchester Camerata. She also performed a recital at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 1997.
In addition to her prolific live performances, Kyoko Tabe has also released many albums of her renditions of famous classical pieces, with much success and high critical acclaim.
Now based mainly in Japan and Europe, Kyoko Tabe continues to perform recitals with great success and remains a well respected pianist internationally.
