Kumi Koda was born on November 13, 1982 in Kyoto Japan and also has a sister that is a j-pop artist. Her music is regarded as R&B & pop.

It was in 1999 when she tried out for the pop mega-group Morning Musume that she started to draw some attention to herself. In 2000 AVEX was holding a competition to find the next star and she won, earning herself a short contract. In December of that very same year, she debuted.

Her first single was named "Take Back" (this song was even released in America). Since then, she’s teamed up with many other famous artists -like BoA and Ayumi Hamasaki- and many might know her for her singing in Final Fantasy X-2. She won a musical award back in December 2005 and is still going strong today.

Thoughts

Kumi Koda is a fairly good pop singer. She has a nice deep voice, but it lacks a bit in range. She has some very good songs though like " 1000 feet". Definitely check her out if you like singers like BoA, Namie Amuro, or Ayumi Hamasaki.
