Vocals: Kojima Mayumi
Started: 1994
Status: Active
Profile
Inspired by 1950 American classics, Kojima Mayumi created her first demo tape in 1994 and began to submit it to record companies. She received a contract through a label and became a full fledge musician at the age of 18. She debuted in 1995 with the single "Kekkon Soudanshoo", and released her first album two months later.
It wasnt until 1997, that Kojima began to perform live. She started at small venues like Shibuya Club Quattro, and was invited to the Rising Sun Rock Festival four years later.
Over the years, Kojimas popularity has continued to grow. She has starred on NHK-FMs "Live Beat", had a song featured on a commerical for Nintendo, and now performs at some of Japans largest music festivals each year! She has also released an illustrated collection of prose titled "Kojima Mayumis Paperback".

Thoughts
Kojima Mayumi is a very interesting singer. She is heavily influenced by music from the 1950s in America, and you can almost recognize some of her tunes. "Blue Melody" is a good example of an inspired 1950s song. One thing that strikes me as strange about Kojima is that she likes to use this nasally voice for her vocals, but every once in a while shell break away from that for a second and actually have a beautiful deep voice. Her songs would be much improved if she could stick to her lower ranges.
