Ken was born on January 17, 1972 in Osaka. His music career started in 1993 when he signed with Sony Music after an audition in Yokohama. He debuted the following year with the single "Precious kenhiraik". Both his first and second singles were used in TV drama’s, drawing a huge fanbase to Ken early on.Shortly afterwards, Ken took off four years from his career. Finally in 2000 he released the album "The Changing Same". Again he met immediate success with high rankings on domestic and overseas music charts. Last August of that year, he appeared at the MTV Music Summit. He was also voted the Best New Japanese Act in a pop poll by RTHK radio in Hong Kong.
In 2002, Ken made his first appearance in the US at the Music Fair Show with producer and singer Babyface. The MTV Music Awards in Japan awarded him the Best Male Artist that summer.
In 2003, Ken made another appearance in the US. This time he performed on MTV’s Unplugged show in New York. He was also interviewed by CNN’s "Music Room". To this day, he continues to be very successful with his releases and performances.

Thoughts
I think a lot of Ken’s popularity comes from his very unusual voice. His voice has a very high pitched, meak sound that actually sounds very good with pop music. His music tends to be pretty simplistic which only highlights his vocals even more. I’m not a big fan of his music, but he does have some very nice songs like "Kimi wa Tomodachi".Click to read/add your opinion!
