Profile

Kat McDowell is a pop-rock star that showed a great interest in music at an early age. Born in Japan, she moved to New Zealand at the age of 5. During her teen years, she spent a lot of time writing original lyrics and entering lyric competitions. In 2005, she left New Zealand to tour the UK and Japan. It was during this time that she decided to live in Japan again and work on a career in singing.

For a while, she worked as a session vocalist, having her vocals featured on commercials for major companies like Kirin, Asahi, and Bridgestone. In 2007 she received a contract and made her major debut with a self titled mini album. A few months later, she also released an E.P. titled "Rock’n Roll Boys Club".

Currently she has performed at over 500 shows in New Zealand, Japan, and the UK. She has also played at major music festivals like Summer Sonic.

Thoughts

KAT reminds me a lot of teen pop stars in the US like Miley Cyrus. Her songs are simple, but have catchy lyrics and music that provide some entertainment. Hopefully with time, her style will begin to mature and take on a better sound.
