Kalmia

kalmia
  Composer/Vocals: Kalm

  Started: 1990’s
  Status: Disbanded

Profile

Kalmia was the solo project of Kalm, a Japanese composer best known for his work in the band Velvet Eden. Kalmia remains to this day the earliest known band for Kalm’s music history, and claimed to be active during the second half of the 90’s. During this time, he released a a few indie demo tapes, including "Thalidomide in Bedroom" with untitled songs, and held a few lives within Tokyo.

In 1998 he met Dada, ex E-Typ vocalist, and after becoming friends they decided to create a project together named "Velvet Eden" with Dada on vocals and Kalm supplying the music, electronic dark wave. With the release of two demo tapes, two full length albums, and one VHS tape with various PV’s and live clips, Velvet Eden recieved a considerable amount of popularity. During lives their music was pre recorded and Kalm pretended to play an instrument or dance to one of Dada’s coreography’s.

In 2000 Kalm left Velvet Eden due to issues between the two members, leaving the band to take a drastic change.

After this, Kalm did little performing and eventually none. He has worked with a few artists by supplying music for their projects, and lately his most notable credits has been helping ex Schwarz Stein’s vocalist Kaya with his solo project.

Thoughts

Kalmia’s music has a very strange sound. As his first music project, the songs seem a bit amateurish for Kalm, featuring poor vocals and electronic sounds at odd parts. By far it is not his best work.
