Kagrra was formed October 1998 under the name Crow. For a while they worked with the record company, Key Party. In 1999 though, they left Key Party and got a contract with PS Company. They changed their name to Kagrra, but it was not official until their release January 1, 2004. One interesting fact to note is that Kagrra is a twisted way of spelling kagura which can be alluded in kanji as god of music (even though it really means the place of god). What is even more interesting is that Kagrra is a visual kei rock group whose costumes reflect different periods of Japanese history.

Thoughts

For those soft in heart, do not even look at those pictures near the bottom! Just listen to the sample and you will feel relieved. I am not a big visual kei fan because some of the costumes singers wear scare me, haha. Luckily I did not look at this group till I listened to some of their songs. Their music is exceptionally good! The main vocalist, Ishii has a really nice deep voice that can do some nice falsettos. Most of their songs are very fast, have unique rhythms, and are very guitar oriented. Compared to some other rock singers, this group does not really scream too much. Kagrra, just puts out great songs that are fun to sing to. I also like how some of their background music has that hint of traditional Asian flavor in it.
