Profile

With elements of industrial rock, glam rock, techno and new wave, Jubilee, a band with a "future style glamorous sound", first formed in August 1992 as a positive punk/goth band.

In 1993 they released two demo tapes, "REDRUM" in April and "KILLING MOON" in June. They also sponsored the new wave event "Gothic Night" and a VHS of this event went on sale in the whole of Japan in 1994.

Two Jubilee songs were featured on the various artists CD, "Jester’s Brain" in February 1996 and although the band released nothing else that year, Sadie released his first solo album, "SPECIMEN FROM "PSYCHIC PLANET"" in April. The album was released in Japan and Europe and was also featured in the British magazine "BRV Magazine".

The band were again featured on a compilation CD, "Forbidden Pleasure vol. 1" in October 1997 and released their 3rd demo tape, "Another World", which was limited to 100 copies, in December of that year.

Another of Jubilee’s songs was included on the various artists CD "High Line Records Free Sampler vol 11." in April 1998. They were also the opening act for SCREAMING MAD GEORGE & PSYCHOSIS and performed on Telvision Osaka, CATV and YES-FM.

They took part in the event "Tokyo Chikashitsu" in August and September 1999 and this was covered by "Fool’s Mate" magazine."New Form of Beauty", Jubilee’s 4th demo tape was released in October and this was soon followed by the band’s first maxi single, "Neo Psychic Baby" in December. They participated in the event "Omen of Evil", and also in the event "Devil’s Christmas 1999" in December, which was sponsored by AUTO-MOD and this event was published in the magazine "BURST" in March 2000.

In January 2000 Jubilee were interviewed about their maxi single by M Gazette and Sadie was also in the bumper issue of "CD SKIT!", in which he talked with Mana of Malice Mizer. The band sponsored the event "Neo Cult Night" in May, performed as the support act for former vocalist of RUNAWAYS, Sherry Curry on a Japanese tour in June and took part in the event "Omen of Evil 2000" in November.

The band took part in the event "Brand New Terro+R+hythm" in 2001 and, together with Simone Miyuki and SISTER PAUL, participated in Lolita brand "Metamorphose"’s fashion show in February 2002.

In addition to their own lives, Jubilee were also the opening act for American rock band Murderdolls in May 2003, when they played in Japan.

In April 2004 Jubilee’s original vocalist left the band and Sadie became the new vocalist. After that, Fummy Black Spiral joined as their new guitarist.

Jubilee finally released their first full-length album in January 2005 and it was titled "The DAWN of the SPACE FANTAZY".

The band continue to tour and Sadie is also currently the vocalist for the band Speecies.

My Thoughts

Jubilee has a nice mix of melodies, rock and synth and strange lyrics. Their style has changed somewhat over the years, becoming even more synth-based and when Sadie became the vocalist, their sound changed even more. However, both periods of music are great and Jubilee are definitely worth listening to! If you like electro-industrial rock, try their older songs and if you like glam synth bands or electro-rock try their newer songs. Click to read/add your opinion!
