Profile
Hikawa Kiyoshi is a popular young enka singer in Japan, nicknamed the "Prince of Enka" because of his age and popularity. His stage name was given to him by Kitano Takeshi (Beat Takeshi of Two Beat), who was an early supporter of the singerfs career. While enka is more often performed by and listened to older fans, Hikawa has popularized enka in younger demographics that usually do not listen to this type of music. He rarely performs while wearing kimonos and often appears in trendy, contemporary clothes like other young artists. He performs as KIYOSHI when recording pop music.
Hikawa began singing in high school, when he was introduced to enka by a teacher and continued singing it with the schoolfs music club. He chose to become a professional enka singer after several trips to nursing homes, where he saw the affect of his singing on the elderly. In 1996 he moved to Tokyo to study under enka composer Mizumori Hideo, with whom he remained for over three years. He debuted in 2000 with his first single "Hakonehaciri no Hanjiro" and has continued successfully since then.
Hikawa often appears on NHK Kayo Concert and the annual NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen. He was a guest of honor at Hawaiifs Aloha Festival in 2003, at which he performed a concert. In addition, he sang the theme song "Mirari" for the Ultraman Mebius and Ultraman Brothers movie as KIYOSHI and sang the opening song to Japanorama.

Thoughts
Overall, I am not a big fan of enka in general, nor of Kiyoshi. His music is a mix of traditional melodies and electronic instruments, giving it a cheesy sound. In addition, Kiyoshi overuses his vibratos in songs, making you sick of them very quickly.
