Hey! Say! JUMP is a pop group under Johnny & Associates which produced popular groups such as SMAP, V6, TOKIO, Kinki Kids, ARASHI, Tackey & Tsubasa, NEWS and KAT-TUN. The group comprises of ten juniors from two subunits, Hey! Say! BEST and Hey! Say! 7. Yabu Kota, Yaotome Hikaru, Inoo Kei, Takaki Yuya and Arioki Daiki are members for Hey! Say! BEST, while Nakajima Yuto, Yamada Ryosuke, Chinen Yuuri, Morimoto Ryutaro and Okamoto Keito belong to Hey! Say! 7.

Hey! Say! JUMP debuted on 24 September, 2007. The group has an average age of 15 years old. The oldest member was 17 while the youngest was 12. Their first single, "Ultra Music Power", was released on 14 November and it ranked at #1 on the Oricon charts. The single was for the 2007 Volleyball World Cup Relay theme song. Almost three months after their debut, they held a concert at Tokyo Dome on 22 December that year.

Besides singing, the members were/are also involved in acting. Most of them have acted together with their seniors in dramas, such as Arioki Daiki, and acting together with SMAP’s Kimura Takuya in Engine (which also starred fellow Hey! Say! member, Nakajima Yuto). Other than that, Nakajima Yuto also acted together with KAT-TUN’s Kamenashi Kazuya and NEWS’ Yamashita Tomohisa in Nobuta wo Produce. Yamada Ryosuke acted with Kamenashi in 1 Pound no Fukuin which is currently airing in Japan.

Thoughts

I thought NEWS is the only J&A group who debuted with more than six members (they had nine in 2003) and here is Hey! Say! JUMP debuting with ten members. I’m a fan of most Johnny’s group but I’m still not really fond of HSJ. Their single is catchy and addictive and Chinen has the cutest voice. Overall, it’s quite hard to judge since only one single had been released so far. This group is definitely for anyone who was a fan of Ya-Ya-Yah! and recommendable to very young listeners.
