Profile

Hard Gear formed in July of 1996, with Tanaka of Saber Tiger and Toshio of Saber Tiger and Double Dealer fame. Asano (of Sea Bat) joins in early May 1997, while Watanabe signs up in September. Their first demo tape, Directrax, is released in November of 1997 and soon after, Asano quits and Sapporo joins. Takeuchi takes his place. Their first tour is in Novemver of 1998 and they made thieir website soon after. Suzuki, of Negarobo fame, replaces Sapporo on drums. After a few stable years, the band’s line-up is established and Episode of Realism is released in 2003.

Thoughts

The vocals for Hard Gear are not that great. It really sounds like Watanabe struggles to produce consistent vocals. The one thing this band has going for them is Tanaka. Tanaka’s skills on the guitar are quite superb and his solo’s will leave you wanting more.
