Profile

Formed in 2003, Halcali is a J-Hip-hop duo with the name of the group deriving from the combination of their two names. Haruka and Yukari met each other after attending the same dance school and joined a "female rapper audition" hosted by RIP SLYME (another j-hip-hop group) and the two girls won even though they never really rapped before. Their last names? Its kept hidden from the fans, but their stage names are Halca and Yucali.

They even have their own way of talking. For example "candy hearts" is talking about dieting and dating. On top of this, they have their own clothing brand.

As of this writing, they have 8 singles and three albums with one of their latest singles "Tips Taps Tip" being used as an ending theme song for the popular show Eureka 7.

Thoughts

Halcali is just an okay band to me. Their music is an odd combination of hip hop, pop, and techno. It often allows them to create kawaii songs. The vocals are just average though. They focus more on the lyrics of the song than on the presentation of the vocals. As a result they tend to sound more like the numerous teen J-Idol singers out there.
