Hajime Chitose was born on January 5, 1979 in Amami-Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture. She is a Japanese traditional style singer who had won several folk-music awards. She was signed to Epic Records and had her first major single, Wadatsumi no Ki, released in 2002. Almost 850,000 copies were sold and reached the top of the ranking charts. She released two other singles titled Kimi wo Omou and Kono Machi in the same year.

In 2003, she released another single, Sen no Yoru to Sen no Hiru on June 11, and Itsuka Kaze ni Naru Hi, two months later. She announced that she would be on a break from the scene to have time with her family in the early 2004 and did not return until November 2005 by releasing a new single, Kataritsugu Koto. This was followed with the release of two more singles titled, Haru no Katami and Ao no Requiem, on March and May of 2006.

So far, she only released Anata ga Koko ni Ite Hoshii / Miyori no Mori single for 2007 and it was her first double A-side single.

Thoughts

I, myself, am not a fan of enka music. Hajime Chitose isn’t that bad though. Her music resembles modern pop ballads, and she has a very nice voice. If she didn’t fluctuate her voice as much, her songs would be very enjoyable to listen to. Give her a try.
