Profile

GARI was formed in 1997 by Yutaka Dokko, Naoki Fujimoto, and Kei Kusakabe. At first their music consisted of rockish tunes spiced up with some funk. When Yow-Row joined their band though, their music became more electronic.

In 1999, GARI established their own record label called DeadstocksandwicH Records. Under this label, they released the mini album "Flight Recorder" and the single "Brain Shooter". The band also became more active, hosting monthly performance events and taking part in compilation albums.

Around 2003, the band took a break from their live performances and returned to creating music. After only a year, the band became active again. GARI made their major debut with the album "e.go.is.tick". The album was extremely successful, ranking 3rd on Tower Records weekly chart and 14th in nationwide sales.

Since their debut, the band has continued to be very successful. In November 2005, the band worked with musicians Tim Gane and Jack Dangers to arrange music for the remix album "al.tru.is.tick". In 2006, two new albums were released: "Neo Radio Station" and "Masked".

Thoughts

GARI is off to a great start. Their newest works are a combination of electronic sound and rock accompanied with singing and some rap like vocals. One nice thing about their music is the variety of sounds and themes used. Many of their songs are upbeat, but they have also explored with slower melodies like the one in "Tears in the Snow". Definitely check out their music.
