Fantastic Plastic Machine is the solo project of Tomoyuki Tanaka, and was formed in 1997. His music is influenced by Bossa Nova, and 60’s music sound tracks. Tanaka was formerly a part of Sound Impossible, a DJ team from Kyoto. This group eventually became Fantastic Plastic Machine.1997 saw FPM’s debut album The Fantastic Plastic Machine, in 1998 FPM’s 2nd album Luxury and in 1999 a maxi single, Take Me To The Disco were released. Shortly after a German label called Bungalow Records released the album for Europe and a label in L.A. called "Emperor Norton" released the album for the U.S. and Canada in 1998.
These two albums were highly praised throughout the world,and he successfully toured Europe, the United States,and Canada. Since 1998, he has continued to release. In addition to recording as Fantastic Plastic Machine, Tanaka has done remixes for artists including Towa Tei, Pizzicato Five, and Yoshinori Sunahara in Japan. A little side-peice about FPM’s name is that it came from a 1969 documentary about surfing.
