Profile
In 1991, Eternal Elysium was formed in 1991 by Yukito Okazaki, Atsutoshi Tachimoto, and Jiro Murakami. They did two recordings for a self titled demo in October 1992 and thei first album: "Faithful" in 1993. In March of 2003, Tachimoto and Murakami left the band. December of that year,Black Mark Production wished to form an album, but it fell through.
The name Eternal Elysium was coined in 1995 and Okuyama was added into the band. Eclipse Records decided to sign them on for a rerelease of the Faithful album and in 1996 it was, and a new drummer, Kuroda, joined. For 4 years this was the line-ip and many compilation albums were recorded. In 1998, Cornucopia Records put out a doom metal compilation/split album of Eternal Elysium, Church of Misery, Millarca, and Berwnice.
In 1999, Okazaki recieved a request to be in MeteorCity Records "I am Vengeances" sountrack. The same year MeteorCity records asked Eternal Elysium to sign for an album, and it was going to be a compilation. During this recording, Eternal Elysium parcipated in the Iron Maiden tribute "Slave To The Power" in 2000. Under MeteorCity Records, they finally released "Spiritualized D" and it was released in America that year. Okuyama decided to call it quits.
Okazaki and Kuroda found Umemura to be their new bassist and they recorded Witchfinder Generals classic "Burning a Sinner". The classic Japanese movie "Godzilla" also featured a new theme played by them. But, the drummer Kuroda left the band in February 2001. In November 2001, Tom Huskinson joined the band. But after the US tour, he didnt feel like furthering his stay. Finally, the final/current line-up was secured and theyve gone to back to work.

My Thoughts
When one mentions Doom Metal, bands like Katatonia are obviously going to be mentioned. Whats great is that Eternal Elysium is also one of the most famous doom metal bands not only in Japan, but world-wide. Think of doom metal as the best produced of all metal. It typically has clean vocals, and a black/death metal atyle to them, but somewhat slower in some cases. In my opinion, the vocalists arent top-notch, but there are still a LOT of doom metal fans.
