Dead Pop Stars formed in 1992 by ex-Kamaitachi drummer, Kenzi. Along with members Aki on vocals, Hideto on bass, Taiji on guitar, Kenji on drums, and De-hi as support bassist, the band began by making appearances at various small clubs. The same year of their debut, they released their first album "The Dead Pop 4Drugs" which featured 11 tracks. Within only two years, the band released another album and signed a record contract with Anarchist Records.

By 1997 the band had been promoted from the indie scene and was releasing major singles. Around this time, the band also began to refer to themselves as "D.P.S.".

The past few years have proved to be both sweet and sour for the band. In 2002, they celebrated their 10 year anniversary with the single "Chaos-JP". In 2003, Taiji also joined the band as a guitarist. Unfortunately only two years later, the band lost their bassist, Go.

Thoughts

DPS is a good band worth trying. They are very reminiscent of bands like Kagrra, and Psycho le Cemu, with the nasaly vocals and good accompianment. I am rather surprised that a larger record company hasn’t gotten a hold of this band yet. Definitely check them out.
