Profile

Formed in the Netherlands in 2006, Dokumi consist of Mika (vocals), Lin (guitar) and Nana (bass). The band are quite influenced by Japanese music - all their lyrics are in Japanese - and Lin has previously been featured on Shrapnelsound, a compilation released in Japan, as part of his solo project, as well as working with BLOOD.

Dokumi have experienced quite a lot of success in their first year together. Their popularity is growing and they opened for Japanese bands Anti Feminism and Hagakure at Jrockcon2007. Following this appearence, the band were interviewed by MTV and are currently working on their first album.

Thoughts

Dokumi is off to an adventurous start. They deserve major props for singing in Japanese when it is not their language of origin. Vocally, Mika is doing good. My only criticism is that I would like Lin and Nana to have a more prominant role in the songs. A lot of the emphasis in the songs is placed on Mika, but I would also like to hear more of the instruments as well. Definitely check them out though. Their success with live performances is very note worthy.
