Profile

Formed in 1993, DEEN originally came together to record the song "Kono mama kimi dake o Ubaisaritai", which featured in the commercial for NTT DoCoMo’s "pocket bell". Although the song was written for the commercial and the vocalist had not been chosen, when the producer heard Shuichi Ikemori’s voice, he was selected, and DEEN, consisting of Shuichi Ikemori, Koji Yamane, Tatsuma Nakai and Keisuke Kurasawa, was put together before the song’s release. The single sold over a million copies, stayed in the top 10 for 9 weeks and within the top 50 for 19 weeks and thus DEEN became extremely famous very quickly.

After the band’s first album, "DEEN", drummer Keisuke Kurasawa left and was replaced by Naoki Uzumoto and following their fourth single, "Hitomi o sorasanaide", guitarist Tatsuma Nakai too left and new guitarist Shinji Tagawa joined. Following this, the band continued to make numerous releases and tour in Japan.

In April 1996, the band’s song "Hitori ja nai" became the end theme of the popular anime "Dragonball GT" and in December 1997 the DEEN song "Yume de Aru You ni" was chosen to be the theme song of "Tales of Destiny". After that, they coninued to successfully make releases and tour. However, in 1999, Naoki Uzumoto too decided to leave the band after the countdown live in Kobe on December 31st. Since then, DEEN has continued as a three-piece band.

Thoughts

DEEN is a great pop band that fans definitely need to listen to. They consistently compose beautiful melodies that are catchy and well liked. A lot of credit needs to go to Shuichi as well for his incredible vocals. This is a great band that I highly recommend.
