Profile

Casbah, one of Japan’s most popular thrash metal bands, formed in October 1983 by vocalist Taka Hatori and original guitarist Nariaki Kida. The band has mostly consisted of the nucleus of Taka Hatori and Ryu Murayama; from their beginnings in 1983 through 1986/1987, the band wore crazy Attack Metal costumes and wore make-up, a la KISS and Seikima-II, and played a very heavy, pounding ‘thrash metal’ for lack of a better name...in fact, the track "Death Metal" was indeed one of the first references to this new type of music by that name alone. Starting in 1986/1987, the band moved towards a more HC/Thrash style of metal that still remained heavy, but perhaps not as raw and visceral. They continued to release great albums until splitting up a couple of years ago, after a disappointing relationship with RoadRunner Japan signalled the end (for now) of their 20-year history!

As for my thoughts on the band, they are, without a doubt, abnormally talented. My only gripe are the vocals... oh my god, the vocals... anyway, give them a listen. It will be a unique listen either way.

Thoughts

Like NickBlaze said, Casbah has some pretty interesting vocals. The vocalist has a deep voice, but there is just something odd about it when he sings. I can not quite put my finger on it, but it is really weird. The background music is quite good though. Below are two samples to listen to. Enjoy :)
