Boom Boom Satellites is a duo of of Japanese electronic musicians Michiyuki Kawashima and Masayuki Nakano. They started in Europe in 1997. While most of their music can be called "big beats" or "nu skool breaks", they are known for their use of electronic guitars. In the end, their final product often has a strong rock or punk influence. They are considered one of the most distinguished producers in Japan.

Their first 12" single was released in Europe and triggered rave reviews from definitive European music magazines such as Melody Maker.

In 1998 they traveled across Europe performing at 6 major rock festivals and had an European tour with Underworld. After their returned to Japan, their first album, OUTLOUD, was released.

Their world travels continued. They moved to the US and joined Moby in a 3 month tour around the states.

Philosophically pursuing the spiritual world at the same time, their sound is an exquisite blend between calculated programming and the roughness of rock.

They are known for taking part in the anime film Appleseed which took them to new heights in 2004.

Thoughts

Boom Boom Satellites is a interesting mix of rock and techno. Their music incorporates a lot of techno sound effects, and the song Moment of Silence is almost all instrumental. As far as singing, their vocalist is just okay. His voice tends to drag on a lot, which is part of their style, but its also a bit annoying. Below are three samples. Enjoy :D
