Profile

Melodic speed metal band Blasdead was formed in June 1990 by guitarist Shoji Yasuno in Yokohama-city Japan. The band quickly established themselves in the local scene thanks in part to their powerful and high energy lives. Vocalist Shuji Izaki parted ways with the band 1991 and a year later in 1992 their first demo tape was released following their second in March.

Despite the bands growing popularity the vocalist, drummer and bassist all left the band in 1994. Vocalist Jeff Rowe remained. Not giving up and determined Yasuno brought back Blasdead in 1995 with new members Tatsuya Takeyari on drums, Yoshio Enari on bass and Shuji Izaki on vocals. The release of their third demo caught the attention of Japanese indies label Lard Records. The band contributed an unreleased track on Lard Records compilation album Initiation in November of 1995. In 1996 ther first debut album Another Dimension was released.

An extensive tour all over Japan began in 1997 but was quickly halted after vocalist Jeff Rower left the band. Replacement vocalist Shuji Izaki was brought on board in 1998 but to the bands dismay Lard Records closed it doors. Blasdead no longer had a record label. Yet another vocalist change occured again in 1998 when Izaki left and was replaced by Yasuyuki Kida.

Currently Blasdead is looking for new management while performing small club gigs.

Thoughts

Blasdead is a nice power metal band to listen to. They have strong melodies led by the guitars and drums. I also enjoy their vocalist. He has that classic 1980’s metal sound, with overly emotional vocals. Overall, a very nice band!
