Aya Shimazu Vocals: Aya Shimazu Started: NA Status: Active ProfileBorn in Uekimachi, Kumamoto-ken in 1971, enka singer Aya Shimazu made her debut with "Hakama o haita watari dori", a song composed by Testsurou Hoshino, in 1986. She then formed a group with Fuyumi Sakamoto and Kumiko Ishigami in 1987.In 1991 the song "Aizen katsura o mou ichi dou" became a hit, selling over 300,000 copies and after this success, Aya Shimazu became a radio personality on the show "Utau Headlight" from 1994 until 1998. Following this, in 2001, she made her debut at NHK’s "Kouhaku Uta Gassen" with "Kanshajou / Haha e no messeeji".
In autumn 2005 she did a nationwide concert tour, from which the a live DVD of the NHK Hall concert was released. She remains popular and often plays concerts at venues such as NHK Hall. 1-5 ThoughtsAya Shimazu is a very good enka singer. Unlike some vocalists involved with enka, Aya’s voice is very rich in sound and steady. I also love the fact that she sings to nicely orchestrated songs with real accoustic instruments.
