Ayaka is an amazing new pop star in Japan. She was first exposed to the arts through ballet lessons at age 6. At 13 she then took up the saxophone and continued to play it through her years at a university. In 2003 Ayaka was able to secure a contract with Dreamusic label. She debuted with the single Jupiter December 17th, 2003. It was a MAJOR success and sold 675,807 copies! In fact Oricon ranked it #3 out of 100 top singles for the year 2004! Ayaka continued to produce more hits at a very fast pace. So far, she has released 6 singles and 2 albums in little more than a year! I cannot wait to see what she will do in the year 2005! :D

My Thoughts

I am not sure I can do Ayaka any justice by describing her songs. I am just in awe. She has an incredible voice with a beautiful upper range, and she can sing in english! I have been listening to her latest album for two weeks now, and I keep falling in love with it over and over again. Ayaka is an incredible musician and vocalist. Her style is a cross between Maaya Sakamoto and Myco. Each song really pulls you in, and is full of emotion. I can already see that Ayaka is going to have an incredible future. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an artist debut with a single that has sold close to 700,000 copies. That says a lot right there! The song below, Hello Again Jo Jo is from Ayaka’s latest album.
