Profile
Aya was born in Hokkaido. She was first introduced to rock music in junior high. She joined a girl band and bought an electric guitar. At the age of 15, Aya dropped out of school after missing half of the term. She came across the album
Nevermind by Nirvana, and was inspired. She left home and began to sing at bars to make a living. Aya also entered into a vocal contest and won! However, before her band was going to debut, the songwriter passed away. Aya began to write songs herself and found it rather easy. Her first song she wrote, later became her debut song.
Aya began to concentrate on demo tapes and would sing at American army bases in Shibuya. Finally, she scored a contract with BMG Japan and already had 30 tracks ready for production. Aya is also introduced to Adam Kasper (producer of Pearl Jam and Foo Fighters) who helps her record three single tracks. In 2002 she debuted with
A Flower in the Battlefield. She began to concentrate on live performances, was invited to Summer Sonic Festival, and opened for Eikichi Yazawa. Aya began to release more works and her live performances began to sell out. She currently has 2 albums out!

Thoughts
I am always happy to come across girl rockers :) Aya's vocal style is rough, sexy, and definitely fits the rock scene. Her music reminds me a bit of Nanase Aikawa's old songs. Her songs have a catchy edge and great melodies. The song
Rojou no Kage is a beautiful rock ballad and one of my favorites!
