Ali Project was started by Mikiya Katakura -a man known for his classical music since 1988-. He was looking for a vocalist when he found Arika Takarano - an "eccentric" woman who is said to have a voice like Shiina Ringo-. They met and formed the group in 1996.

It was said that they were hesitant at first, but went on to create many great albums. Their albums are a mixture of instrumentals, ballads, and even "gothic" rock’n’roll. Their music has even been endorsed by Malice Mizer. They’ve even done songs for animes such as Rozen Maiden.

Thoughts

Ali Project is a very strange, twisted band. They really stick to two different sounds. They sometimes record kawaii tracks like "Water Drop". Othertimes though, they record mysterious, dark tracks like "Mirai no Eve". Its a pretty great contrast in style and definitely catches your attention. Overall though, I think their darker tracks are by far the best :)
