Profile
Asian Kung-Fu Generation first formed in 1996 with three members. Their drummer, Ijichi joined them later in their career. At first the band sold their works exclusively online. The band also had a flare for the English language and used English lyrics in their first album. In 2001, AKG became known when a radio station played their song
Konayuki on the air! Shortly afterwards, AKG got a contract with Sony Music and began releasing new works. Their first major mini-album,
Houkai Amplifier, ranked #1 on the High Line Record Sales and #35 on Oricon. In 2002, the band also received the chance to use their song
Haruka Kanata as the opening for the anime Naruto! This was perhaps the first big exposure that got international fans interested in the band. Shortly after this, AKG released their first major album and won a award for Best New Artist Video! In 2004, the band recieve another chance to have their song
Rewrite be used as a opening for the anime
Full Metal Alchemist! Near the end of 2004, AKG released its second major album titled Sol-Fa. The album sold over 500,000 copies and was on Oricons chart for 7 weeks straight!
After a long tour, the band released their third major album, Fan Club in 2006. They also held their largest yet annual Nano-Mugen Festival! They are currently set to release the main theme song for the anime movie Tekkon this fall!
My Thoughts
Well, what more can I say about AKG? I have a fansite devoted to them...basically theyre just plain awesome! This group has a awesome playlist ranging from upbeat fast rock songs, to more mature ballad rock songs. Their lyrics are incredible and definitely touch your heart. Whats also nice is that unlike bands like Larc en Ciel, AKG just tries to act like theirselves on stage and have a good time. Theyre a good genuine rock band with a bit of Weezers style :)
