J-Pop singer/songwriter Aiko was born on November 22, 1975 in Osaka Japan.

Aiko attended Osaka College of Music where she studied popular music vocals. Upon graduating in 1996 she got a job as a DJ on FM Osaka. Later in July of 1998 she made her first debut with her song Ashita. Her third single, Hanabi soon followed. And her sixth single, Boyfriend became one of her best selling singles. In 2000 and with the success of Boyfriend Aiko attended the Kohaku Uta Gassen, an annual music television show by NHK that airs in Japan on New Years Eve.

Aiko became famous with the help of her music being used in television commericals and tv dramas. With her music consisting of primarily love songs, Aiko has become popular among young girls all across East Asia.

In 2005 and 2006 Oricon published survey results from 20,000 subscribers listing Aiko as their favorite singer.

Thoughts

Aiko is a very kawaii jpop singer. One nice thing that can be attributed to her education at Osaka College is the fact that her songs cover a wide variety of themes. This includes music with hints of jazz, country, blues, and pop music. The amount of variety that she includes in her songs really sets her apart from other pop singers. The one area she could grow in is vocals. Her vocals could portray a lot more emotion, and do have a limited range.
