Profile

175R is a four member band that formed in 1998. They based their band name on the nickname of a junior high school friend. At first, the group played at small clubs. In May 1999 though, the band entered a contest and won the grand prize of 10,000 yen! Encouraged by this, the band entered another contest and won their grand prize as well! 175R continued to play and even had a nationwide tour. It was not until June 2001 though that 175Rs music hit the Oricon ranking charts. In 2002, 175Rs first album hit Oricon and was ranked #6. Since then, 175R has become quite popular. Most of their singles and albums consistently hit the Oricon charts. Also of interest, they attended the Rock in Japan Festival 2004, Set Stock 04, and the Sky Jamboree festival with AKG and numerous other great bands.

My Thoughts

175R is a cool cross between ska and rock. Their song, Reason, is like a ska song with a Jamaican feel. Then their song, Glory Days, has that same ska feel with some really nice rockin guitar parts. Their singer, Shogo, actually has a pretty high voice for a guy, but it works really well with their music. I really love how this band actually highlights their bass player too. In several of their songs, the drummer and bass will hit off some solos that are really sweet. Isakick also incorporates some very sweet guitar riffs. Overall, this band is really together and each member is quite talented. If you want some upbeat music, then definitely try 175R!
