A Great Year in the Electronic Scene

Bespa Kumamero 2007 saw a very active wave of electronic artists, not to mention the birth of a few wonderful new ones and overseas live talent. With powerful and pleasurable beats, Japanese electronic music has considerably grown into a world wide movement.

For starters, many fantastic bands travelled overseas to hold European tours. Such bands like Aural Vampire, Sin of the Flesh, and BAAL, just to name a few. YMCK, while no concerts in Europe, held shows in South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand respectably. The UK held Bespa Kumamera’s very first out of Japan concert, which was very successful and received great reviews.

Gothika Gothika too obtained their fair amount of spotlight with their return to Europe in the beginning and at the end of the year, not to mention their much anticipated first full length album, " 120 Days of Sodom", released this past September.

This was also a year for great releases, including Capsule’s 10th album titled "Flash Back", and COLTEMONIKHA’s mini album "COLTEMONIKHA2" both with high energy beats and wonderful arrangements.

Kaya Ex-Schwarz Stein’s Hora released two full length, instrumental albums. The second one, "ICEBOUND", contained two CDs, one with 9 new tracks, and the second with 5 remixes from his previous works. Kaya, also an ex-Schwarz Stein member, collaborated with several artists to aide his solo project, including Versailles’ guitarist, Hizaki, with the cover song for his latest single, Carmilla, and Kalm (ex-Velvet Eden) with the single "Ouka Ryouran" and "Hyakki Yagyou" earlier in the year, and others.

GPKISM Other phenomenal news came from BLOOD’s very own Kiwamu when he announced his new discovery, GPKISM, from Australia, which he joined as a guitarist. Their music holds a baroque and gothic theme, and while they are fairly new, they have gained much attention in Japan and overseas. We should expect many great things from them.

With much expectation from many more artists we leave 2007 waiting for many great things from such talented artists. 2008 will definitely be a grand year for electronic music.
